Ryan Ellis won the Rita Lloyd Moroney Award sponsored by the United States Postal Service in recognition of outstanding historical scholarship focusing on the history of the U.S. postal system with his paper titled "Binding the Nation Together: The Politics of Postal Service". Yael Warshel accepted a faculty position with American University, based in Washington D.C. Her new position will be as an Assistant Professor of International Communication in their School of International Service.

Jen Vernon received the award 'top student paper' to the Ethnography Division of the National Communication Association, for the 2007 meeting in Chicago this November.

"Ricardo Guthrie was selected to be a Visiting Researcher at UC Santa Barbara's Center for Black Studies Research for 2007-08. He will be focusing his research on Black newspaper publisher Dr. Carlton Goodlett and his newspaper, the San Francisco Sun-Reporter, and preparing a book manuscript and journal articles. He is also working with Prof. George Lipsitz at UCSB on the Center's new ethnic studies journal.

In August, Ricardo was also appointed to a three-year term to UC San Diego's Board of Overseers. The UCSD Board of Overseers advises Chancellor Marye Ann Fox on campus/community issues, policies, and activities."
